Ayurvedic medicine

The word Ayurveda is derived from two Sanskrit words ‘Ayush’ which means life and ‘Veda’ which means science. So the science or the study of life within us that evolved in this part of the world (India) is what we call Ayurveda. Like other medicinal systems, Ayurveda also a methodology to understand the disease and then works to relieve it with the help of oral medicines, yoga, pranayama and other methods. There are certain beneficial aspects unique to this medical system. In this blog, we will look at some of the major benefits of Ayurveda. Click here to read why one should opt for Ayurvedic medicines.

1) AN AYURVEDIC LIFESTYLE IS THE BEST IMMUNITY BOOSTER

Since the Covid-19 pandemic originated, there is craze to consume immunity boosters amongst the masses. Ayurveda believes food is the first medicine.

An ayurvedic lifestyle is designed to complement the climate, geographic location, one’s body type (prakriti) and in helping balance panchabhootas (the 5 elements).

A seer who follows an Ayurvedic lifestyle will be completely in sync with nature.

This will ensure one of the best immune response mechanisms is in built in the body. An Ayurvedic lifestyle is not only about the food we eat, the Dinacharyas or daily duties recommended for a healthy lifestyle in Ayurveda includes hygiene tips, dietary regulations and work out regimes.

It will also have practices recommended for a healthy mind like yoga or pranayama as a part of it. Hence Ayurveda offers a complete package to life in sync with nature and lead a healthy, peaceful and prosperous life.

2) AYURVEDA SEES ALL DISEASES AS PSYCHO-SOMATIC AND TREATS THEM COMPREHENSIVELY

Allopathy despite being backed by advance research fails to even consider the impact of the human mind in helping in recovery from diseases.

In fact most of these clinical trials are conducted in a placebo controlled atmosphere aka the power of our mind and thought is completely ignored.

Ayurveda understands the power of our mind to make us sick and help us in recovery. It is a system of medicine where every disease is treated as a psycho-somatic disorder.

The recommended treatments will involve efforts to convince the mind of the diseased to push for recovery; if not make them believe they have already recovered.

This creates a strong placebo effect and complements by improving the efficacy of oral medications and other treatment methods. In Ayurveda, every disease is first cured in the mind and then in the body.

This approach at times gets some flake from the scientific community. Yet so many researches from the same have shown placebo as a powerful tool in helping recovery from diseases.

In May 2021, a news piece reported 90% of the people who were mistakenly administered fake remdisvir medicines for covid-19 recovered probably because their min thought they received the right medication and tricked the body to react positively to their condition.

3) IN AYURVEDA, EVERY MEDICINE IS A HEALTH TONIC AND A COMPLETE REJUVENATOR

Allopathic medicines are designed in a way to specifically act on a condition and help healing that one particular condition.

Many times the effects of such drugs on the overall well-being of the body are not thought about resulting in many Allopathic drugs being the root cause of so many adverse side effects.

In Ayurveda, every medicine is in one way or the other a total body rejuvenator. Ayurvedic medicines attempt to try and restore the balance in Tridosas and not act molecularly upon a problem.

Almost every ayurvedic medicine attempts to primarily act upon the problem and then secondarily restore balance of the Tridosas aka maintain overall health.

Most Ayurvedic prescriptions are complete body rejuvenators which nourish the entire body and improve overall health from within.

4) AYURVEDA IS AFFORDABLE, SCIENTIFIC AND EFFICIENT

Ayurvedic medicines are affordable and cheap when compared to other systems of medicine. Disorders like piles, arthritis etc. is recommended complex treatments in allopathy.

The number of families who go below poverty line every year after one of the members had to take allopathic treatment for serious illness is on the rise.

This is where Ayurveda, which has a 5000 year old history in helping people recover from various diseases, offers an alternative.

Ayurveda is also increasingly becoming an evidence based medicinal system thanks to the many modern scientific researchers which are being conducted on Ayurvedic medicines.

Let us not forget, no man has ever gone bankrupt because of Ayurvedic treatment!

5) AYURVEDIC MEDICINES CAUSE THE LEAST SIDE EFFECTS

A lot of noise has been made by critics of Ayurveda about the use of heavy metals in some of the Ayurvedic medicnes. This is a completely misguided notion.

First hardly 10 percent of the Ayurvedic medicines have metals. Most medicines are purely herbal with only plant extracts.

Secondly the use of metals involves a complex process of preparation which reduces the virya of the metal and makes it safe for consumption.

Almost all Ayurvedic medicines are free from toxic chemicals or processed lab made chemicals. Many Ayurvedic medicines do not even have added preservatives.

This is not the case for Allopathy. Definitely Ayurvedic medicines which are mostly purely herbal and aim to restore balance in the body are less likely to cause adverse side effects compared to other systems of medicine.
