A perfect spoilsport for outdoor games and blissful sleep and a carrier of many diseases, they truly don’t deserve any mercy. The synthetic mosquito repellents may be effective in shooing away the pesky flies but they are equally harmful to our health. Inhaling the gas or applying lotions on skin effects the body in negative ways. Fortunately, there are many natural effective and cheap techniques to ward off the nasty beasts. Essential oil Essential oil is potent at keeping the mosquitoes at bay while causing no side effects on the body. They relax, calm and soothe the body with powerful natural properties and the best part is they are free from harmful chemicals. Here is a list of the most effective mosquito repellent essential oils: Lavender The aromatic essence of lavender is well known for its relaxing and sleep-inducing properties. However, the tender looking lavender is sturdy enough to fight bugs and mosquitoes. Lavender oil can be used as a diffuser to keep away ants, insects, and mosquitoes. Neem Neem leaves are ladened with strong antiseptic, antibacterial, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. They are also used since ages for their therapeutic nature. Neem leaves work effectively well against flying objects including mosquitoes. They work well when mixed with base oil and applied to the skin directly. Tea Tree Tea tree oil is well known for its antibacterial, antifungal ability, antiseptic, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory properties. It is an efficacious repellent that protects and soothes painful bites from mosquitoes and bugs. Repellents containing tea tree oil are effective against mosquitoes, bush flies, and biting midges. Basil The oil extracted from this culinary herb has many benefits. It is a proven natural insect repellent and an instant mood booster. This sweet and spicy smelling oil contains high levels of larvicide and is commonly used in battling against mosquito bites. It is often cultivated close to homes to repel bloodsucking insects, including mosquitoes. Thyme Thyme oil is an excellent natural alternative to ward off the nasty mosquitoes. It is one of the best repelling agents for malarial mosquitoes. Citronella Citronella is a common household weapon against flies and mosquitoes. Extracted from the leaves and stems it is extremely effective against mosquitoes that transmit yellow fever as well as Dengue and Zika viruses. Growing citronella around your garden is also a good way to repel mosquitoes. Lemon eucalyptus oil This lemon-scented gum tree leaves is a potent insect repellent.
